Brumberg lighting project

Learning with feelings of happiness in the belly

How do you transform standard seminar rooms in an academy into lively learning landscapes? How do you break out of rigid room concepts and equip rooms with flexibility in use and atmosphere? These were the questions that the Arnsberg architectural firm Keggenhoff |Partnerhad to answer in an exciting modernization project for the Arnsberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The task was to convert the existing seminar rooms of the Hellweg-Sauerland Academy of Administration and Economics in such a way that they could be easily reconfigured for various purposes. Sliding walls instead of solid walls initially created variability in the room size. Now, in order to be equipped for a wide variety of occasions, from seminars to corporate workshops to evening events, the decision was made to make intelligent use of light and lighting.

vitaLED® from Brumberg

Learning in a modern working world. For students at the VWA Hellweg-Sauerland, this often means attending their seminars at the weekend or in the evening after work is done. Then it is good to be able to learn with full concentration and performance. In this context, architect Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Sabine Keggenhoff asked her lighting designers (Gebro Herwig Engineering, Arnsberg) for the Brumberg Vitallicht vitaLED®. This has a decisive advantage: the RGBW color light enables infinitely variable control of white light (from 2,000 to 10,000 Kelvin) beyond the RGB color space (red, green, blue). This allows the blue light components in the white light, which are important for the human organism's ability to concentrate and perform, to be optimally controlled.

If the seminar rooms are to be converted into event rooms for evening events, the vitaLED® control system and light sources can be used to implement and call up various colored, atmospheric scenarios. In combination with light projectors and moving heads, impressive lighting moods are created, which convinced and delighted the building owners. In this project, Brumberg supplied the control system as well as the light sources. Because the latter had to be installed in existing luminaires as part of the modernization, Brumberg developed a special adapter ring.

In practice, the overall concept has proven its worth. The rooms can now be used in a much more diverse way and the feedback from the students is also extremely positive. This project is thus a fine example of what can be created when architecture, planning and lighting design go hand in hand.
