Brumberg wins globally recognized Red Dot Award

LED surface-mounted ceiling luminaire QUBIC impresses with minimalist design.

Sundern, April 2017. Outstanding award: the family-owned company Brumberg, the luminaire manufacturer from the Sauerland region, wins the globally recognized Red Dot Award. The LED surface-mounted ceiling luminaire QUBIC, developed together with designer Alexander Grimm, convinced the jury with its high design quality. "We are very pleased about this internationally recognized award. The award shows that we are on the right track with our innovative products," emphasizes Johannes Brumberg, owner and managing director of the company of the same name.

Challenging task optimally implemented

"Brumberg's brief was to develop designs for a cubic ceiling-mounted luminaire with an energy-efficient LED reflector, while at the same time creating impressive lighting effects," describes Alexander Grimm (Lounge Design). Another requirement: "The design should be discreet and light," Ronny Eysser (Lounge Design) adds to the task. The challenge for the multiple award-winning designer was to find something special within this limited scope. "The key to the solution - and thus to the unique selling point - was the optical decoupling from the ceiling through the rear concept of a light ring," explains Michael Ruschmann (Lichtraum Ruschmann Stein GmbH), who came up with the idea for the solution. This is also the special feature of the QUBIC ceiling surface-mounted luminaire: this fascinating lighting effect creates the impression that the cube is floating on the ceiling. The LED ceiling surface-mounted luminaire QUBIC can be used wherever a modern, design-sophisticated ambience, a reduced design language and a special lighting aesthetic are preferred. "The luminaire itself has no emotional design language. It appears cool, simple and clean. Emotions can be created by the beautiful lighting effect on the ceiling," Grimm emphasizes.

The QUBIC LED surface-mounted ceiling luminaire: square, white, 3000K color temperature, equipped with a 9 watt high-performance LED shining directly downwards and 1.5 watt indirect light component for ceiling illumination, ceiling surface-mounting via screw mounting and 230V direct connection, for use in general or accent lighting, energy efficiency class A++ to A. The QUBIC ceiling surface-mounted luminaire is also available as a recessed LED spotlight [350 mA, 6W, 2700K] in two different versions. Whether square or round, the LED recessed spotlights perfectly set the scene in the room as general or accent lighting and can be used as a design family according to the different requirements in the room.

The significance of the international design competition Red Dot Award: Product Design, based in Essen, is firmly established internationally. A jury first met more than 60 years ago to evaluate the best designs of the time.
