Plug & Light: Rethinking light

March 15, 2018

Premiere at Light + Building 2018: Plug & Light from Insta takes flexibility in interior lighting to a new dimension. The novel light socket invites you to think light in a new way. As a firmly defined interface, Plug & Light combines lighting control and power supply. The matching light attachments dock onto the light socket via a magnet, can be rotated 360° without a stop, and can even be replaced during operation. The light can be dimmed immediately without flickering. Plug & Light thus opens up completely new freedom in lighting design: sampling and selection of the ideal light are easier, safer and more flexible than ever before. As Insta parent companies, Gira and Jung have implemented the innovative technology in their switch series. Together, they will be presenting the system at their joint stand in Hall 3.1 (B90). Brumberg (Hall 3.0, E51) is the first lighting manufacturer to show 15 matching Plug & Light lighting systems.

As an open system, Plug & Light can be installed in any standard recessed box, even British Standard. It brings decorative light directly from the wall or ceiling into the room. Combined with appropriate light attachments, it creates functionally reliable and easily controllable light in the interior, dimmable in luminous intensity and light color, from bright to dark and up to warm dim - depending on the light attachment used.

Plug & Light paves the way to a new world of lighting design. Once the position of the light is fixed, the type of light and luminaire design can be re-decided and exchanged at any time - even after completion.

Experience new flexibility in lighting design

The extremely flexible lighting design with Plug & Light enables the electrical installer to install the system easily and safely. A new type of interior lighting can be experienced - especially in upscale residential construction as well as in the hospitality sector. The spotlight that brightly illuminates the kitchen worktop creates - rotated by 180° - a pleasant, indirect light for an aperitif. The reception area of a hotel becomes an exhibition hall by changing from pendant luminaires to spotlights. A work table becomes a cozy dining table with a flick of the wrist and a change of light attachment. The spotlight on the wall - turned to the appropriate position - becomes a reading lamp. The 12-volt low voltage also makes the system childproof, and dismantling protection is also available.

Brumberg: Five light series

As a Plug & Light member, Brumberg has already developed five decorative light series for the market launch. Each series consists of a ceiling, wall and pendant luminaire. With Saloon, MiniQU, Double, WALLED and Gramo, Brumberg offers a comprehensive portfolio of high-quality luminaire families that set the right lighting accents in both private living areas and commercial buildings.

Plug & Light network

Luminaire and building system manufacturers can use the system to develop their own luminaires or light sockets. In this way, they become a member of the Plug & Light network and can actively shape the future of interior lighting. Plug & Light already combines the expertise of well-known manufacturers: four medium-sized companies have pooled their expertise in the areas of switches and sockets, luminaires and building system control at Plug & Light. Thus Plug & Light already offers a large variety of designs and applications at its premiere.

Insta: Light socket with four light attachments

Insta presents the light socket and four light attachments: a floodlight, a spotlight, a pendant luminaire and a light engine. Since Plug & Light can be inserted into any standard European switch box, it can be combined with any switch design and the entire interior can be perfectly coordinated. Insta draws on decades of experience in lighting and building control to develop Plug & Light. Insta combines its comprehensive know-how in the field of flush-mounted inserts and OEM development with the special expertise of the founding companies Gira and Jung.

Gira: System 55, Gira E2 and Gira Esprit

Gira has integrated Plug & Light into the System 55 switch platform and is introducing light sockets, floodlights and spotlights in the Gira E2 and Gira Esprit switch ranges, among others. Gira, founded in 1905, has developed from a technology start-up and regional manufacturer of socket outlets and switches into one of the internationally leading and recognized full-range suppliers of intelligent system solutions for electromechanical and digitally networked building control.

Jung: LS 990 and A creation switch design

Jung will show Plug & Light in LS 990 and A creation switch design as well as floodlights and spotlights in matching colors. Since 1912, the company has stood for a skilful interplay of design standards and innovative strength. Its products are precisely crafted down to the last detail and are durable - from classic electrical installations to contemporary building technology.
